10/25 Edgewater - In the World - Parenting
Sermon Brief
Parents face countless voices offering advice about raising children, but the most important question is whose authority shapes our lives and homes. In Deuteronomy 6:4–7, Moses teaches that passing faith to the next generation begins with adults who genuinely love God. Our example, everyday conversations, and stories of God's faithfulness help others learn to know and follow Him.
Big Idea
Leading others toward God begins with loving and following Him ourselves. We pass on faith through our example, everyday conversations, and reliance on God's Word, His Church, and the Holy Spirit.
What is something you learned from a parent, coach, teacher, or mentor that has stuck with you for years? Why do you think it was so memorable?
The sermon contrasted “what parents want” with “who God is.” What pressures or influences today can make it difficult to keep God as the highest authority in our lives and homes?
Read Deuteronomy 6:4–7. Why do you think Moses focuses on the hearts of adults before he talks about teaching children? What stands out to you in these verses?
The message described parents as “family historians.” What stories of God's faithfulness have shaped your faith the most? Who told those stories to you?
Which of the three guideposts mentioned in the sermon—the Bible, the Church, or the Holy Spirit—do you most naturally rely on? Which one do you need to engage more intentionally right now?
