9/6 - Daniel 8
Daniel 8 gives Daniel a disturbing vision of kingdoms rising and falling, persecution, rebellion against God, and evil appearing to succeed. The vision specifically points to the Medo-Persian and Greek empires and to Antiochus IV Epiphanes, who violently opposed Jewish worship and persecuted God's people. Yet even when evil appears powerful, God remains sovereign and places a limit on its power. The sanctuary will be restored, and the enemy will ultimately be broken—not by human strength.
The chapter also points beyond Antiochus to the ultimate enemy who will oppose God and His people before God's purposes are completed. Daniel himself does not understand everything he sees. He is deeply troubled, but eventually he gets up and goes about the king's business.
Big Idea: We may not know what tomorrow holds, but we know who holds tomorrow. So instead of being consumed by what God hasn’trevealed, we can faithfully obey what He has made clear.
